Local History:
Towson was first settled in 1752 by two Pennsylvania farmers, brothers William and Thomas Towson.
During the Civil War there was a Confederate Calvary raid on the Northern Central Railroad line near Cockeysville, and the next day, July 10th, 1864 they skirmished with Union Calvary along York Road.
Most notable landmark is the Hampton Mansion, dating from the 1790’s. It is now a National Historic Site maintained by the National Park Service, and open to the Public.
